Are you ready for the weekend? C’mon out to the Naptown barBAYq Contest and Music Festival and help celebrate and raise money for kids in need. Our fearless leader of Spouses Cleaning Houses, Ed Wright, will be volunteering all weekend with the Annapolis Evening Rotary Club where he is a Board member. Ed will be selling water and ice, riding the golf cart, helping out everywhere, and you might even see him flipping a burger. This is the 5th year for the event and the 5th year that Ed has been a supporter.

There will be music all weekend, with over 40 bands performing on three stages, plus cooking demonstrations, barbecue competitions with over 60 teams participating, activities for the kids and lots of great food and beverage options including bbq, burgers, hot dogs, beer, soda, several vegetarian choices, and of course crab cakes! We’re happy to share that the barBAYq is “green”, recycling paper, plastic, glass, and metal. With the help of Annapolis Green, the event also collects meat scraps (estimated at a ton!) from the competitors to be composted at Veterans Compost, the only licensed commercial compost operator in Maryland, owned and operated by veterans.

The 5th annual barBAYq is Saturday, May 2 from 11:00am to 9:00pm, and Sunday May 3 from noon to 6:00pm at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds, 1450 Generals Hwy, Crownsville, MD 21032. Tickets are $15.00 with free parking. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

Last year’s event drew over 10,000 people and raised over $75,000 for grants to community charities for children in need. If you’re not able to attend, but still want to support the cause, tax-deductible contributions are greatly appreciated.
